If anyone out there is still interested in this community, did anyone read the sequel?

It's been a while for me, but I think it was called "Love, Stargirl"

  hey everyone!

i looooove the book stargirl, but i haven't read it in a couple years. i'm mostly interested in it again becuz i heard they're making a movie of it.

what i'd like to know is what color stargirl's eyes are? i skimmed thru to try and find if spinelli ever mentions the color, but could only find descriptions of the size of her eyes.

also, have any of u heard if they've cast anybody yet? i checked all over the internet, but all it says is who's directing and producing, etc.

anyway, thanks so much!

I'm so glad I found this community :)

I finished reading Stargirl for the first time a couple of days ago, and I loved it. It was so inspiring. I had tears running down my cheeks by the end.

I can't believe I found it by chance. A bookstore I visit regularly had a sale recently, and was selling Stargirl for 99p. The pink cover and the strange little drawing on the front caught my eye, and being that it was only 99p I figured I couldn't go wrong.

Am so so glad I bought it <3

Hi. I'm new here. SO I decided to post, hehe.

Anyway, the reason I joined is basically the same reason everyone else did: the words of Jerry Spinelli in the form of Stargirl has touched me profoundly. I saw it amongst a shelf of books in my junior high book fair three years ago. Its cover intrigued me. Not knowing what great universal truths lay in my hands, guised as yet another children's book by none other than Mr. Spinelli himself, I read the blurb on the back. Immediately, I thought that this may be an interesting book...if maybe a little more eccentric and unique than what Spinelli usually writes. So I bought it, not knowing for the next few months after that normal day at the fair that I would be right.

For awhile, I forgot about the book. I kept it on my bookshelf next to my teen novels...and there it lay forgotten, its magic still yet undiscovered. Towards the end of eighth grade, I found it again. And so I decided to read it, unaware of the poignant power that was to come.

Needless to say...I was enthralled.

Stargirl Caraway represents the inner flower child in all of us...the constant in our lives that wills us to live, see, feel and breathe life in other ways. She's there to help us, to open our eyes and see others as they want us to see...to guide us through those days when you reach an ultimate high and then sink to another low in the blink of an eye.

Upon reading this unlikely powerful book, I fell in love with Stargirl. Pretty soon, I heard about Nickelodeon and Paramount Pictures' consideration about turning the book into a movie, and I wanted my opinion to be heard. That is to say...I wanted to tell them my thoughts on the casting and soundtrack. I never got to mail my letter. However, I'm an aspiring actress, and my realisation and newly found determination to find an agent (plus my discovery of this community) has made me want to continue to spread the word about my opinion. Who knows? Maybe when I become a successful independent film actress, I'll have had made some connections who can allow me to produce (haha, yeah right)!

Anyway, my casting list has changed over the course of those three years, and I want to post my final list here, for you fellow lovers to critique and discuss as much as you like. Here:

Stargirl Caraway....Evan Rachel Wood

Leo Borlock....Ryan Merriman

Kevin Quinlan....Michael Galeota

Hillari Kimble....Lindsay Lohan

Archie....Sir Anthony Hopkins

Anyone know how to play the ukulele?

It's my newest goal to learn someday.

This song reminded me of Stargirl- it's probably because it's a girl and she's playing the ukulele...

Has anyone read anything else by Jerry Spinelli?
I just read Milkweed and thought the ending needed a little work... it seemed sort of like a cop-out... comment what you think!

I loved Wringer... I thought that was another amazing book by him.

Stargirl is by far the best though.

Is this community about the book "Stargirl" or is it about religion?

I have a few good titles for a religious community, but starglrl is not one of them.

I'm just wondering.

Thanks.

IF this is the stargirl community... has anyone read any other Jerry Spinelli books? If so what? And what'd you think?

went to church with my bf this morning. today's palm sunday so the pastor's sermon was about this:

Luke 19

Zacchaeus the Tax Collector
1Jesus entered Jericho and was passing through. 2A man was there by the name of Zacchaeus; he was a chief tax collector and was wealthy. 3He wanted to see who Jesus was, but being a short man he could not, because of the crowd. 4So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore fig tree to see him, since Jesus was coming that way.
5When Jesus reached the spot, he looked up and said to him, “Zacchaeus, come down immediately. I must stay at your house today.” 6So he came down at once and welcomed him gladly.

7All the people saw this and began to mutter, “He has gone to be the guest of a ‘sinner.’ ”

8But Zacchaeus stood up and said to the Lord, “Look, Lord! Here and now I give half of my possessions to the poor, and if I have cheated anybody out of anything, I will pay back four times the amount.”

9Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, because this man, too, is a son of Abraham. 10For the Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost.”

the pastor pointed out how important it is to have the zeal to seek God and His kingdom. Zacchaeus wasn't a good person. he was the head tax collector, a corrrupt one and for that he was loathed by many. he was wealthy in the eyes of men. but in the eyes of God he was poor. He was a short man, fattened by his sinful nature. but these didn't impede his curiosity to see who Jesus was. he knew that he was "great" and that he had everything one could possess. but he also knew that there was something missing in his life. and this made him incomplete. he knew he didn't have Jesus in his life. and because of that, he climbed a tree and made a fool of himself just to see who Jesus was regardless of what others say. he wasn't expecting anything, just the opportunity to finally see Jesus. just that. and because of that passion to seek the "LIFE" he never had, he was brought to salvation.

Christ Jesus didn't come to our world to sit with the righteous and to live a life of a king. He came here to be with us sinners so that He could save us from our transgressions. to cleanse us. He came here to save the lost and lead us to the right path.

all we have to do is to seek for Him. have the passion and determination to find redemption.

Matthew 7:7-8

7“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 8For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.

goodnight everyone!ü

I have always been interested in space, stars, etc. Because of that, when I decided to set up an interesting email account several years ago (c. 1998), I decided to call myself stargirl577.

A few months ago, a friend gave me a copy of the book Stargirl because it reminded them of my screen name. I may have heard of it before then, but I didn't know anything about it. I love the story and the message it conveys. Just beautiful.

Fill your heart by David Bowie

This song reminds me of Stargirl Caraway.

Fill your heart / David Bowie

Fill your heart with love today
Don't play the game of time
Things that happened in the past
Only happened in your Mind
Only in your Mind-Forget your Mind
And you'll be free-yea'
The writing's on the wall
Free-yea'. And you can know it all
If you choose. Just remember

Lovers never lose
'Cause they are Free of thoughts unpure [sic]
And of thoughts unkind
Gentleness clears the soul
Love cleans the mind
And makes it Free.

Happiness is happening
The dragons have been bled
Gentleness is everywhere
Fear's just in your Head
Only in your Head

Fear is in your Head
Only in your Head
So Forget your Head
And you'll be free
The writing's on the wall
Free-yea'. And you can know it all
If you choose. Just remember
Lovers never lose

'Cause they are free of thoughts unpure
And of thoughts unkind
Gentleness clears the soul
Love cleans the mind
And makes it Free!!

Free-yea'. Yeah-yeah-yeah, yeah-yeah-yeah [repeat]
